Finally the Notes from the Last LLc
Our next meeting is Thursday March 15th in Tekoa.
Here are some note from our last LLC meeting which took place at Park Heights Baptist in Spokane in February.
We read "Direct Hit" by Paul Borden- it spurred a fair amount of discussion on vision and prayer. Many of us came away from the meeting talking about setting up prayer teams for our church.
We also discussed some upcoming mission opportunities- Gene is meeting with Ministers from the Yakima Valley Hispanic Ministries and is hoping to partner with churches in the LLC to do a VBS and Service Mission Trip to the Yakima Valley.
Champ discussed that he has been in contact with Danile Chetti, an American Baptist missionary to Lebanon.
Bill shared with us some books that have been helpful to his life and ministry:
Art of Pastoring
Loving the Church You Lead- by David hansen
Long Wandering Prayer
The River Why
Brothers K
Peace Like a River
-I didn't get the author information on all the titles- but if you are curious, I am sure Bill can direct you to them- hey he may even loan you a copy.
"The Next Christendom" by sociologist Philip Jenkins, is a book I mentioned that has a ton of research and statistics about Christian movements in the world and compared to other religions.
Someone wanted this website: www.songsonpowerpoint.com so there you go.
As always we prayed for each other. We also prayed through the facility of the Park Heights congregation. Thanks to Pastor Ray for hosting.
We are praying for vision for our churches, for Bill's house, for Norm's eye and for our shared ministry.

Radical Islam Movie
Hello from Post Falls!
As I talked about this movie abour radical Islam, our congregation saw it for the first time two weeks ago. They were stunned, and glad they had come and experienced first-hand what is actually happening out there. From the producer of 24, comes a documentary that pounds, for an hour, the urgency of the radical Islam issue. It was received so well, we will show it again... I think more people will come out and see this movie... and there will be more discussion as well.
What is my purpose? To understand the world we live in. We need to be missionaries in our city, our country, and the world. How do we pray? By first understanding the world we live in.
The news media does not accept the premise of the movie, nor the motivation of the radical Islam disciples. The media simply does not understand the dedication of a culture that will stop and nothing to serve its agenda. And now that agenda has turned world-wide.
For more information about the movie, and for information on how you can purchase the DVD, here is the internet address: www.obsessionthemovie.com
It will be worthwhile in thinking and discussing with your congregation, and others, on the next threat to the United States and the world.
On a different note, at our Congregational Meeting I began to introduce my vision. First, I began to say that we need a "higher profile." That means, to determine we will now go above the radar, and begin to show ourselves as followers of Christ. We are working on a new logo. Our logo is definitely 1975 all over... it needs a make-over. I gave it to those kids 20-29 to give me a mosaic logo that we can use everywhere. A logo they would be proud to show anywhere and everywhere. I also started to simply call us "Sunridge Church." The proper name is Sunridge Community Church, but I believe that, too, is 1980's. The people of today want something authentic and direct. We are, and we will begin to show them what Sunridge is all about. I also told them to read "Revolution" by George Barna. This book made such an impact on me, that I told them they needed to read this book, and that I would even buy them a personal copy if they were the least bit interested. I told them church is now Acts 2. And the "Revolution" is happening all around them... and I want us all to be a part of it! I told them I wanted to use their passion as well as their giftedness. I told them that we will not use people, but we will develop people. Person by person, I applauded what they have done in the church (in 30 sec. or less) and said they had been doing a fantastic job (which they have!) Then, I said, it is time to see WHAT ELSE God wants to do! I gave them a list of Millenial topics, from coaches to mentors to Spiritial Architects and People Projects to S.W.A.T. teams and the like. I told them this is what a church of 1,000 looks like. And that we are now going to begin, step by step, to fill the sheet out. I told them God has given me a green light, and that I would now be charting progress on this Revolutionary Vision. I told them that we will use the mosaic model. I told them we will only work in Ministry Teams - that we had depended on the individual to do things (as we are a small church), but now we will do things as teams. Since we are meeting in a warehouse, I told them that I had already looked at 3 possibilities of places where we could start our higher profile... we will see which one the Lord reveals is His will. I told them I loved them very much, and that the Lord is now taking us to exciting places within the Kingdom, that we are not "pushed aside" as a small church, but there are 20 million people that are alreay like us, and moving to make the Revolution (as told in George Barna's book).
What was their response?
"Pastor, let's go!"
I was humbled, honored, and meant every word of it.
For me, it is time to lead - wherever God leads - as He is beginning to give powerful insight and direction!
For example: How do people lead others to Christ if they have never done it before?
I found a tool I will begin to distribute for the people to use. If they don't know the words, Rick Warren can say it for them! Look on www.theinvitation.tv for a wonderful CD you can buy or even download off the internet - it has the gospel is a simple, clear format from Rick Warren himself. It is basic, and contemporary. Simply getting these CDs out there will make a world of difference! Again, I will show them the link, or even buy the CDs for them so they can show it to their friends. I have a few pagans I am going to try it out on! I will let you know how it goes - that's right, why not try it out on the people it was meant for?
Looking forward to seeing you at the LLC March meeting!

Sorry...
Hi Pastors,
Sorry I haven't gotten notes up from our last LLC meeting.
We had an unexpected death in our church. He was a very good man, a leader in our church.
So the schedule shifted quite a bit last week.
I hope to get the notes up before our next LLC- how's that for efficient?
Peace be with you,
Corey

The Current Book
Dear LLC Pastors,
Whether you get a copy of it at the library, buy it Amazon.com or at The Book Parlor- (509-328-6527, lutheranbooks@msn.com) Douglas Coupland's "Life After God" is a good and quick read.
It is intentionally different from all the other books we have read. It is a novel of sorts, uncomfortable to read at times, that is helpful in opening your heart to issues of Americans age 40 and under. Its first person voice and candidness remind me a bit of JD Salinger's, "The Catcher in the Rye." "Life After God" is the story of an unsettled, lost person.
Sometimes we are so often deeply embedded in the "Christian World" that we forget that the "Kingdom of God" is all about seeking out the lost.
If we are going to be leaders of communities who are seeking to reach the lost for Christ, and love hurting and broken people- it will serve us well to read what they are writing. If we want to bring them home, to a life lived with God, we have to go where they are.
Read this book- its good for you. The pages are short- there are lots of pictures and it really goes fast.
Have a great day,
Corey

Thanks and another book
Hi Corey et al,
Thanks for including me in the Baptist blogosphere.
I like the distinction between attractional vs incarnational churches, and appreciate the web links.
I've been using Logos for about 10 years now, and have the huge mega scholar's gold collection. It is super on searches and varieties of translations including Greek and Hebrew, as well as a plethora of commentaries. I have added Keil and Delitsch, Life Application Bible and Barclay's of late, and use them frequently. The whole software gig has freed up my study and prep time, and liberated me from the problem of porting texts back and forth from the church study to my home, where I really work.
I have a book I picked up in the fall at the Sojourner's conference in Pasadena, called Churches That Make a Difference: Reaching Your Community with God News and Good Works. Ronald J. Sider, Philip N. Olson and Heidi Rolland Unruh. (2002) Baker Books.
Maybe you all have read it already, but I'm finding it a fit for our congregation as we have had a 95% turnover from older to younger (avg attend. 35) in the last 8 years.
Three big parts are: 1) Understanding holistic ministry, integrating evangelism and social outreach 2) The essential elements of holistic ministry, healthy congregation as a base for a commitment to the community, including a ministry-centered organizational structure 3) cultivating and implementing the vision, developing vision, rallying support and dealing with fears, change and conflict in the congregation.
This comes out of the work in the Congregations, Communities and Leadership Development Project. one site they refer to is: network935.org
I just got back from working the Kafe Underground, a coffee house in the basement of K-House, opened up in the short term to raise $$ for the Katrina New Orleans Mission Trip, but with a cozy well lighted place with tables and a great coffee espresso set up and wireless internet its a great place to study and spend time. Right now they're getting going, and don't have totally regular hours. Student run and all that. I'm there 5-7 on Tues and Wed. They are open on Sats too.
All for now. Must work on PhD.
Blessings,
JHD

Some Stuff from Our January Meeting
As promised (though late) here are some of the links we talked about and other items we discussed.
1. We discussed and shared on the use of digital/electronic/internet bible sources PC Study Bible was the product I demonstrated. If interested head to their website. www.biblesoft.com
there are of course many other options for both bible software (see: Logos and Bible Works )
as well as many online resources, such as Crosswalk and BiblePro [this one Bill J. uses].
2. We had a great presentation from Jim on how to do a sermon on power point. He showed how he developed the sermon and also many tips on how to present it. Jim used Google Images to compliment the message. ( http://images.google.com/imghp?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&tab=wi&q= )
3. More important- by far- than the technology stuff was a discussion we had relating to the incarnation of Christ. Our author (Stetzer) challenged us to deeply consider how the incarnation drives our local mission. We considered the difference between an "attractional" ecclesiology and an "incarnational" ecclesiology. I encourage you to continue that discussion with yourself, your congregation and even here through the blog. Also check out stetzers new churches website- there is just a ton of resources at it. (http://www.newchurches.com/)
There is plenty of good stuff there for us "established churches"- and tons of free stuff.
Well ministry dudes- that's enough for now.
Keep lifting Christ up and it will all be good!

Hi- there
We had a good LLC meeting at Immanuel Baptist last week.
Only six of us were able to attend. A couple of our regular attenders were out of state with family matters. We want to continue to pray for Rev. Dr. Haupt (Doc) and for his family as they mourn the loss of his mother. We are also praying for Rev. Phil Thompson- as he is in the midst of helping his father transition out of the family home and into an apartment.
Also pray for good health for Rev. Norm Gano.
I am not at the office right now, but sometime this week I hope to post some of the resources and websites that were discussed at our meeting. Also I am sending out author invitations to those interested so that you can directly post articles on this blog. Please sign up to be an author- and if you have something helpful to contribute- please do it.
Check back later in the week for an update or two!
